The Beebe River rail grade in Campton and Sandwich, New Hampshire required improvements in order to provide a trail that could be used for recreational and forestry purposes.
Horizons worked with the Conservation Fund to first identify locations of the existing trail that were inconsistent with standard engineering practices and could present a risk to the client. Based on this initial review and recommendations from Horizons, habitat improvements were made to some of the areas and maintenance was completed on existing logging roads.
In addition, Horizons completed the design of over 50 culverts, road grading and road base improvements, roadside ditching and two road relocations. We also coordinated the design of 5 bridges required for the project. The project disturbed nearly 18 acres of land.
